Paul Dresher Ensemble Electro-Acoustic Band

Featuring the premiere of commissioned works from the two amazingly-talented young composers, Gyan Riley and Sam Adams (both the sons of very well-known and influential composers), a new commission from multi-talented Bay Area composer/guitarist John Schott, and the Seventh Avenue String Quartet performing the concert music premiere of Dreshers quartet, Time Passes, a work first heard in Dreshers acclaimed score for the Berkeley Repertory Theaters production of Adele Shanks adaptation of Virginia Woolf's To The Lighthouse. Also on the program is the return of Ingram Marshalls atmospheric In Deserto (BlackRock), and Dreshers Double Ikat, a lyrical and luscious trio for violin, piano and percussion, a score with deep roots in the music of Indonesia and India

Father Christmas Favorite Chamber Music

Santa Claus will be on hand to introduce with interesting and witty remarks some of his favorite works by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Bernstein and others for violin, cello and piano. And good listeners will receive a treat from Father Christmas on the way out.

As a benefit for the Highlands Emergency Council, this will be a perfect way to celebrate the season with incredible performances of some of the world's greatest music while helping those in need.

Violinist Karen Bentley Pollick and Louisiana State University cellist Dennis Parker will reprise Scott Eggert's trio Six Wooden Blocks with University of Alabama clarinetist Osiris Molina. Inspired by a poem of Sally McNall,Six Wooden Blocks was premiered at Lebanon Valley College and Pennsylvania State in February 2008. Artist Dan Massad's response to the poem will also be on exhibit. The string duo has performed Eggert's ragtime and tango infused Dance Card throughout the Czech Republic during their appearances at the 2007 and 2008 American Spring Festivals and will premiere a new duo entitled Songbook on this occasion.

Australian pianist Lisa Moore returns to Birmingham-Southern College for a recital of avian inspired duos for violin and piano with violinist Karen Bentley Pollick. The duo will perform Bird as Prophet by Yale composer Martin Bresnick and offer world premieres by the young California composer Samuel Adams and Cardinal Fantasy by the legendary Egyptian composer Halim El-Dabh in honor of his 88th year. Other repertoire will include Road Movies by Pulitzer Prize winner John Adams and sonatas by Leos Janacek and Claude Debussy.
